Every step has a purpose. Every donation gives hope.
In June 2027, Geraint Aubrey will take on the challenge of climbing Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps, to raise vital funds for Velindre Cancer Centre.
This is not simply a mountaineering challenge. It is a personal mission, inspired by a colleagues experience of cancer and a determination to do something positive for others facing the same fight.
Our ambition is to raise £100,000, bringing together businesses, communities, supporters and ambassadors to help make a meaningful difference.
In early 2026, HCB Widdows Mason’s Business Development Manager, Mike Hayne, was diagnosed with incurable stage 4 bowel cancer at the age of just 38.
A husband and father of two young children, Mike was faced with news that would change life for him and his family overnight. Further investigations revealed that the cancer had spread to his liver, lungs and spine.
Mike is undergoing intensive treatment and has responded positively so far. While the future remains uncertain, he and his family continue to focus on each day and making the most of the time they have together.
For Geraint, Mike’s diagnosis was a powerful reminder of how quickly life can change and how many families are affected by cancer.
Rather than simply stand by, he decided to take on a challenge that could help turn a difficult personal experience into something positive.
That challenge is Mont Blanc.
Standing at approximately 4,809 metres, Mont Blanc is the highest mountain in the Alps and a significant mountaineering undertaking.
In June 2027, Geraint will attempt to reach its summit, taking on the physical and mental demands of high altitude mountaineering.
The preparation, training and fundraising will all form part of the journey. We will share updates along the way, giving supporters the opportunity to follow Geraint’s progress and be part of the campaign.
The summit is the challenge. The cause is the reason.
Velindre Cancer Centre provides specialist cancer care and support to patients and families across Wales.
Cancer affects people from every background and every walk of life. Behind every diagnosis is a person, a family and a network of people whose lives are changed.
This campaign aims to raise funds to support the work of Velindre Cancer Centre and help make a difference to people affected by cancer.

That is our fundraising ambition, and we want to achieve it with the support of businesses, organisations, community groups, sporting personalities and individuals.
Every donation, sponsorship contribution, fundraising event and shared message will help us move closer to the target.
